Environmental and Pollution Prevention Policy

Purpose. This policy sets the company's obligations to prevent pollution from its vessels, marina and boatyard under the Protection of the Sea (Prevention of Pollution from Ships) Act 1983 and state environmental law.

1.Commitment

The company will prevent the discharge of oil, fuel, sewage, garbage and antifouling waste into the sea and will minimise noise, emissions and disturbance to marine life from its operations.

2.Refuelling and oil

Refuelling must follow the refuelling procedure with a spill kit deployed and a crew member on watch at the fill point for the whole transfer. Oily bilge water and waste oil must be pumped to the shore reception facility and recorded in the oil record book. Discharge of oily water to the sea is prohibited.

3.Sewage and garbage

Vessels must use holding tanks and the marina pump-out. Garbage must be sorted and landed ashore; nothing is to be thrown overboard. Garbage disposal must be recorded in the garbage record book on vessels required to keep one.

4.Boatyard

Hull cleaning and antifouling removal must be carried out only on the bunded hardstand with wash water captured and treated. Paint, solvent and blast waste must be stored in labelled containers and removed by the licensed waste contractor.

5.Spill response

Any spill, however small, must be contained immediately with the spill kit, reported to the master or marina supervisor, and recorded in the incident register. Spills to the water must be reported to the regulator by the Safety and Compliance Manager without delay.

6.Responsibilities

Masters, the marina supervisor and the boatyard foreman are responsible for compliance on their vessel or site. All crew must follow the waste and refuelling procedures.
